Bicycle Artwork

Think about all of the different parts that make up a bike and then design a bike of your own using recycled materials.

This activity is perfect to use in conjunction with the book 'Ride, Ricardo, Ride!' written by Phil Cummings, illustrated by Shane Devries and published by Omnibus Books.

  • Think about how you would like your bike to look before you begin. Also have a look at the materials you have found to build your bike. This may determine the look and shape of your bike.
  • Step 1We started by cutting out some round circles from tissue paper to create wheels. Attach to the cardboard with glue.
  • Step 2Cut up the straws in different lengths to create the different bike parts; think of the handlebars, seat, pedal and frame of the bike! Attach to the cardboard with glue.
  • Step 3Once you have created your bike, why not stand up and show the rest of your class. You can describe the different materials you have used and the bike you have designed.
