Celebrate NAIDOC Week and Indigenous culture with these printable colouring sheets illustrated by Indigenous Artist Belle Leonard. NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) Week honours the achievements, culture and history of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The meaning behind each of Belle’s illustrations:
Serpent: “The Rainbow Serpent shaping the ridges and rivers. In dreamtime stories, the Rainbow Serpent is said to be the creator of the land and the protector of the waters. A strong and ancient spirit.”
The Turtles: “Quiet and calm, the friendly turtle is a symbol of protection and guidance.”
N.A.I.D.O.C.: “Here we see people gathering to celebrate NAIDOC. NAIDOC is a time to come together and learn about First Nations cultures and celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth!”
