Minibeast Tic Tac Toe

This is a great activity created by Michelle Napanangka Earl, Artist & Basket Weaver, to practice the art of dot painting on a natural object. Aunty Michelle is proud Darkinjung woman with Wonnarua ties, Michelle has a personal connection to the Hunter Valley and respectfully teaches and celebrates the Traditional Aboriginal Culture of the Communities that reside across the valley.

When you’ve completed your miniature works of art use them for a game of Tic Tac Toe! The craft activity that just keeps on giving!

  • Step 1Start by applying a base coat of dark green on each of the nine squares on your board. Allow to dry. Paint the recessed lines between each square using burnt sienna and allow to dry.
  • Step 2Use dot tools and paint to add flowers and leaves to create a garden scene onto the board. Allow to dry.
  • CleverTip: Add a small amount of water to your paint colours to create a nice consistency for making each of your dots.
  • Step 3Paint five half spheres red and another five yellow and allow to dry. Add details to create a lady beetle on each of the red half spheres. Add details to create a bee on each of the yellow half spheres. Allow to dry.
  • Step 4Apply a coat of gloss finish to give your designs a shiny surface and help protect your wooden pieces. Allow to dry.
  • Step 5Your Tic Tac Toe game is now ready to play!
