Step 1Use a yellow permanent marker to colour the outside of your plastic egg. Allow to dry.
Step 2Cut a chenille stem into thirds. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. Place the three chenille stem pieces over each other so they overlap in the middle, then cross each end of the bottom stem over the top to secure the pieces together.
Step 3Thread a bead onto each end of the chenille stems and bend each end over to secure it. These will be your firefly’s legs.
Step 4Use sticky tape to secure the centre of the legs to the bottom of your egg. Slightly bend the legs away from the egg, so your firefly can stand up.
Step 5Cut an 11cm length of chenille stem and bend it into a ‘v’ shape. Thread a bead onto each end and bend the ends of the stem over to secure them. This will be your firefly’s antennae.
Step 6Bend a white chenille stem into a ‘v’ shape. Overlap this bend with the bend of your antennae and twist both chenille stems together to secure them.
Step 7Loop each end of the white chenille stem to the middle and over themselves to create wing shapes. Twist both ends together to secure your loop, leaving a twisted section about 2cm long.
Step 8Use sticky tape to secure the twisted end of your white chenille stem to the top of your egg.
Step 9Use glue to attach two wiggle eyes to the front of your firefly, then add on a mouth using a permanent marker. Allow to dry.
Step 10Turn on your LED candle and place it sideways inside your egg with the candle facing towards the back. Your Plastic Egg Firefly is now ready to use. Close your egg and turn off the lights to watch your firefly glow! You can open your firefly to turn the candle on and off as needed.
