World Space Week Cube Satellite

Celebrate World Space Week by creating your own paper Cube Satellite, also known as a ‘CubeSat’. CubeSats are a small satellite that can be used for lots of different functions such as Earth observation, monitoring the climate and communications experiments. This activity is perfect for the 2024 World Space Week Theme of Space & Climate Change!

  • Step 1Print the template provided. We recommend printing on cover paper as this provides a great surface for decorating and a sturdier cube. Colour in your template using pencils or markers.
  • Step 2Cut out the template pieces along the outer solid grey lines. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
  • Step 3Mountain fold along the grey dotted lines of the cube template piece.

  • Step 4Flip the template over so the design is facing down. Apply glue to the cube tabs that say ‘Glue’. Fold up the sides of the paper to create a cube shape, pressing the tabs against the inside walls of the cube as you go. Allow to dry.
  • Step 5Mountain fold the two panel pieces along the grey dotted lines. Turn them over and apply glue to the tabs that say ‘Glue’. Attach each panel individually in the spots indicated on the sides of the cube, so both pieces are facing up.
  • Step 6If you would like your satellite to hang, you can attach a piece of craft line to the top of the cube using sticky tape.
  • Step 7Your Cube Satellite is ready to display for World Space Week!
