Step 1Take 8 paper straws. Use a sharp pencil to carefully poke a hole through each one approximately 7cm from one of the ends.
If you are struggling to get a pencil through the straw you could try using an open pair of scissors. You will need to be very careful using this method though and adult supervision is highly recommended!
Step 2Thread each of the 8 straws onto a chenille stem, carefully pushing it through the holes you created in step 1.
Step 3Think about the type of fish you want to create, then cut the straws in an arc above and below the chenille stem to give the body of your fish some shape. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
Step 4Decorate the template provided using markers and then cut out all the pieces. Add a wiggle eye to each head piece using glue. Allow to dry.
Step 5Place one head and tail piece of the template face down on the desk and then lay your straw body in place between them. If needed, bend the ends of the chenille stem so they don’t stick out from the template pieces. Spread PVA over the back of the head piece and chenille stem end before laying the second head piece, decorated side up, over the top. Press the template pieces together to sandwich the chenille stem in between. Allow to dry.
Step 6Use the same method as with the head pieces to glue the tail pieces together. Allow to dry.
Step 7Fold along the light grey dashed line on each fin. Take one of the fins and use glue to attach the small tab to one of the paper straws. Allow to dry then flip the fish over and attach the second fin in the same way. Allow to dry.
Step 8Your Wiggly Fish is now ready! You could add a chenille stem hanger for displaying or simply have fun bending and watching him wiggle in your hands.
