Step 1Poke a hole in the bottom of a paper cup using a sharp pencil.
Step 2Cut 20cm of satin ribbon and place both ends through the hole in the paper cup. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. Use sticky tape to secure the ribbon ends to the inside of the cup. This will create a loop for holding or hanging.
Step 3Trace around the bottom of your cup onto your choice of coloured cardboard and cut out the circle.
Step 4Cut small, evenly spaced slits around 5mm long around your cardboard circle about 1cm apart. Fold each tab downwards. This will later fit inside your cup as a fake bottom.
Step 5Cut 10cm of ribbon and use sticky tape to secure one end to the bottom of your cardboard circle.
Step 6Use paper streamers to decorate the outside of your cup. Cut a fringe down a long length of your first colour of streamer. Glue the top, uncut half of the streamer around the bottom of your cup. Trim any excess. Repeat this process to layer different colours of paper fringe by gluing the uncut edge of each streamer just above the previous layer, until your cup is covered like a pinata. Allow to dry.
Step 7Turn your cup over and place your goodies inside. Be careful not to overfill your cup!
Step 8Slide the cardboard circle inside your cup with the ribbon facing outwards, pushing until the circle holds itself securely inside the cup.
Step 9Now you’re ready to surprise your friends with this fun Pinata Cup – just pull the bottom ribbon to release your hidden goodies!
