Step 1Download and print the template provided. You can either print on white paper and decorate the template pieces or use the templates to cut the pieces out of coloured paper. We have chosen to cut the pieces out of coloured paper. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
Step 2Take one of the squares and fold it in half corner to corner as shown. Unfold.
Step 3Take the corners opposite the crease and fold them up along the crease line, to create a kite shape.
Step 4Fold the point at the top of the kite shape downwards to make a triangle. Tuck this triangle underneath the two side flaps.
Step 5Rotate the triangle shape so the point is at the top. Fold the bottom point on the right-hand side up along the centre line. Do the same with the point on the left-hand side. You will now have a smaller kite shape.
Step 6Unfold the right flap of paper twice. Pinch the paper inwards and refold along the creases as shown by the red dotted lines in the image. Crease the paper so there is now a point sticking up from the kite shape. Lay the point down and crease so it is pointing upwards as shown.
Step 7Repeat step 6, this time on the left-hand side. You now have the first component of your Autumn leaf.
Step 8Fold another four components following steps 2 to 7 using the remaining four squares of paper.
Step 9Take a component and add glue to the diamond shape on the right-hand side. Take a second component and align the diamond on the left-hand side on top of the first. Press the pieces together to secure. Repeat this step, adding glue and applying the next component until you have all five components attached, creating the leaf shape. Allow to dry.
Step 10Fold the rectangle piece of template in half lengthwise and then half again to create a strip. Flip the leaf shape over and glue the strip onto the back in the middle, with a third of it sticking out the bottom. This is the stem of the leaf. Allow to dry.
Step 11Your Origami Autumn Leaf is now complete! Make as many leaves as you like using different Autumn colours. You could display your leaves in a window or use craft line to hang them from the roof!
