Step 1Cut your green crepe paper into smaller, more manageable rectangles. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
Step 2Coat the outside of a paper cup with a thin layer of gloss finish. Layer your crepe paper pieces until they cover the surface, then coat in another thin layer of gloss. Repeat this process with the inside of half a bauble. Allow to fully dry.
Step 3Use silver paint to paint the back of two paper plates. Allow to dry.
Step 4Use a pencil to trace the outline of your bauble onto the middle of one of your paper plates. Use a sharp pencil to poke a hole through the middle of the plate. Adult supervision is recommended for this step.
Step 5Use scissors to cut from the hole to the traced line. Repeat this step multiple times to create at least 18 triangular sections, as shown.
Step 6Trim the ends of the triangular sections, leaving 1cm tabs. Bend the tabs upwards. Use sticky tape to attach the tabs to the inside of your bauble.
Step 7Use a sharp pencil to poke a hole through the base of your paper cup. Cut from the hole to the edge of the cup multiple times to create at least 9 triangular sections. Trim these sections, leaving 2cm tabs. Bend the tabs upwards. Tape the tabs to the back of your second paper plate, in the middle.
Step 8Align your paper plates and staple one side together to create a hinge.
Step 9Now you can decorate your UFO however you like! We used gemstones and chenille stems. We have also provided a handy template that you can print and decorate to add some interesting details to your UFO. Allow to dry if needed.
Step 10Your Glowing UFO is now ready to come to life! Simply lift the top of your UFO, turn on a tealight (or maybe a few!) and place it inside to make it glow. Please note: This idea is to be used with Battery LED Tealight Candles only.
