Clay Vase, Dish & Keyring

Step 1When working with clay, work on a non-porous surface so the clay does not stick.
Step 2Cut small pieces of clay from a large block with a wire toggle.
Step 3Use slip/slurry (a mixture of clay and lots of water) as a glue to hold clay pieces together so they don’t fall apart.
Step 4To join pieces of clay together rough up the two points that will connect with a knife or clay tool, cover with slurry and join together.
Step 5Pinch and poke pieces of clay to mould into any shape.
Step 6Coil long skinny rolls of clay and wind them together with slip to make pots, vases and other clay objects.
Step 7Use tools to add texture and decoration to your clay projects.
Step 8A pottery wheel can be used when working with clay to spin pots and vases.
Step 9Allow the clay to dry for at least 48 hours. It may need longer depending on the thickness of your design. Rotate clay every 12 hours to ensure the clay dries evenly.
Step 10When cleaning up make sure not to wash any clay down the drain otherwise it will cause problems.
Step 11Once the clay has dried completely you can paint it with bright colours. Allow to dry.
