Step 1Cut a 68cm piece of beading wire – we have chosen to use black. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. Fold the wire in half, then thread it though the eye of a sewing needle. Thread the needle through the centre of a felt ball (we have chosen a red one). Stop pulling the wire through the ball once it reaches half of its length. You should have four pieces of wire sticking out of each side of the ball. Leave the needle as is at this stage.
Step 2Thread beads on one of the wire ends that are free, on the opposite side of the needle. To create the spider’s legs, use the following sequence of beading: 2 seed beads, 2 long beads, 3 seed beads, 2 long beads, 3 seed beads, 2 long beads and 1 seed bead to finish. To secure the last seed bead in place, wrap the wire around the last bead and twist the wire up the length by about 5mm. Slide the beads down to cover the twisted wire. Repeat this process for the other three legs on this side.
Step 3Pull the needle tight so that the beaded legs on the other side are flush with the felt ball. Cut the wires at the eye of the needle so the ends are now open and you can remove the needle.
Step 4Repeat Step 2 on this side so that all the legs are now decorated. Make sure when you secure the last bead on each leg, to push the beads close to the felt ball and twist the wire up the length as much as you need to. Trim any excess wire. You can now bend each leg into shape.
Step 5Glue some wiggle eyes to the front of the felt ball. Allow to dry. Your Bead Legged Spider is now ready to display!
