Step 1Choose a coloured paper square and lay it in front of you so the white side is facing up. Fold the square in half horizontally as shown, then unfold.
Step 2Fold the top and bottom edges into the centre line that you created in step one. Flip the paper over and again fold the top and bottom edges into the centre line.
Step 3Unfold the paper and lay it down so the white side is facing up with the folded lines running vertically.
Step 4Repeat steps 1 and 2. Unfold the paper to reveal a grid of squares.
Step 5Fold in 1 column of squares from both the left and right-hand sides.
Step 6Fold the top left and right corners inwards to meet at the centre, creating a point at the top in the middle. Fold this top, middle point downwards as shown and crease in place.
Step 7Fold in 1 column of squares from both the left and right-hand sides. You should now clearly see an ‘M’.
Step 8Flip the ‘M’ over and fold 1 row of squares up from the bottom. This will create a small stand so the ‘M’ can stand up!
Step 9Repeat steps 1 to 8 using another paper square to create a second ‘M’.
Step 10To create a ‘U’ choose another coloured paper square and follow steps 1 to 4 to create the grid of squares.
Step 11Fold in 1 column of squares from both the left and right-hand sides, then fold those columns in again.
Step 12Fold 2 rows of squares up from the bottom.
Step 13Flip the paper over and fold the bottom left and right corners inwards to meet at the centre, creating a point at the bottom in the middle. Fold this bottom, middle point upwards as shown and crease in place.
Step 14This will create a small stand so the ‘U’ can stand up!
Step 15You now have all the letters you need to spell MUM!
Step 16Finish off the letters by adding some patterns using a permanent pen! The black contrasts nicely with the brightness of the coloured paper.
