Step 1Take 2 sheets of different coloured cardboard and bring the short edges together to fold in half. Trim 1cm from a long edge and a short edge of one sheet so it is a little smaller than the other. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. Nest the small sheet inside the large and use double sided tape to hold in place.
Step 2Take a third sheet of cardboard and fold in half as you did in step one. Rule a horizontal line 11cm down from the top and then cut along the line so you now have a rectangle. Fold the bottom of the rectangle up 1cm and firmly crease, then fold back down to create a flap. Make small diagonal cuts to trim the corners off the flap as shown. These flaps will be used to attach the cardboard to the card.
Step 3Draw on the heart design for the pop-up. Because the cardboard is folded in half, you will only need to draw one half of your design. With this in mind, we have drawn in half of a large heart starting from the folded edge, and then a smaller heart on the outside. Use scissors to cut out the design.

Step 4Unfold the pop-up and use a permanent marker to outline your design. Add a touch of sparkle with glue and fine glitter. Allow to dry.
For less glitter wastage, use a scrap piece of paper to catch any excess glitter. This will make it easy to tip the glitter back into the container ready to reuse!
Step 5Work out where you want to position the pop-up. The main thing to remember is you need to make sure the centre fold of the pop-up is perpendicular to the centre fold of the card. Add double sided tape to 1 of the flaps then press down in place. It is important to leave the other side unattached at this point.
Step 6Take another sheet of cardboard and fold in half as you did in step one. Rule a horizontal line 4cm down from the top and then cut along the line so you now have a skinny strip. Fold the bottom of the strip up 1cm and firmly crease, then fold back down to create a flap. Draw a banner design for the pop-up then cut out, remembering to trim the corners of the flap as shown.

Step 7Unfold the banner pop-up and use a permanent marker to outline your design. Write a note in the middle of your banner.
Step 8Work out where you want to position the banner, remembering the fold must sit perpendicular to the card fold. Attach 1 flap in place with double sided tape and then lay the banner pop-up flat as shown.
Step 9Lay the heart pop-up flat and folded in half, then fold the banner pop-up in half over the top of the hearts. Place double sided tape on the respective flaps of the pop-ups.
Step 10Remove the paper back of the double-sided tape and close the card flat. Run your hand over the card applying pressure. When you open the card back up, the pop-ups should have stuck in place and be standing up when the card is fully opened as shown.
Step 11Decorate the front and inside of the card using left over cardboard scraps and a marker. Your card is now ready for Mum on Mother’s Day!
