Protect your work area, prepare your materials and make sure you have glue and paint brushes on hand.
Step 1Assemble your 3D wooden toolbox before decorating to ensure easy construction. For permanent assembly you will need to glue the pieces together.
Step 2Place the side of your toolbox flat onto the back of some patterned craft paper. Trace around the edge of the side panel. Do this twice to create two templates, one for each side of your toolbox.
Step 3Carefully cut your templates out with scissors.
Step 4Give your toolbox a coat of white paint. Allow to dry. This is not essential but provides a good base for painting.
Step 5Paint your toolbox in bright colours. Allow to dry. Look to our Toolbox design for inspiration or come up with your own.
Step 6Attach your paper side panels to your toolbox with glue, and allow to dry.
Step 7Cut a square out of red felt. This will be the body of your padlock.
Step 8Cut a U-shape out of grey foam. This will be the hook of your padlock.
Step 9Attach both parts of your padlock to the front of your toolbox with glue and allow to dry.
Step 10Use a black marker to add details to your toolbox, such as the keyhole on the front of your padlock.
