  • Blotting rather than colouring stops the marker from bleeding under the template and ruining your design.
  • Step 1Print out the template provided and glue to a rectangular piece of contact approximately 12cm x 9cm.
  • Remember when baking your porcelain mug, DO NOT pre-heat the oven. The difference in temperature may cause your porcelain mug to crack. Instead, put your porcelain mug in a cold oven, then turn the oven on. Visit glass and porcelain tips and techniques for more information.
  • Step 2Cut out your design as shown.
  • Step 3Peel the backing from your stencil. Starting on one side, place your contact stencil onto your mug. Flatten the contact onto your mug as you pull the paper backing away.
  • Step 4Make sure your contact is completely flat on your mug. Rub out any air bubbles from around the inside edges.
  • Step 5Using a glove to protect your skin, scribble porcelain marker onto your mug inside the bear stencil and then carefully blot the marker ink all over your image.
  • Step 6Remove contact stencil and use a toothpick to remove any unwanted colour.
  • Step 7Add colour and words to your design using your markers. Allow to dry for a minimum of 24 hours.
  • Step 8Once dry, place your mug in a cold household oven. Once the temperature has reached 160°C, bake your mug for 90 minutes to heat set your design.
