How to Assemble a Chicken Hat

Get ready to shake your tail feather! These adorable cardboard chicken hats are perfect for the Easter Hat Parade or any time of year.
  • Step 1Decorate the cardboard pieces using your choice of decorating materials. Allow to dry if needed.
  • Step 2Take the hat piece and wrap the bottom edge around to create a circle. Adjust the size to fit your head and glue or tape the ends in place. Allow to dry if needed.
  • Step 3Ensure all the paper strips are flared opened to look like a sun. Take a strip from the bottom of the circle and place the end over to the opposite side, in the gap between two strips. Secure the end of the strip to the inside of the hat. Allow to dry if needed.
  • Step 4Take the next strip on the right of the strip end you just secured and bend it over to the bottom of the circle so it sits in the gap on the left of the first strip. Secure the end to the inside of the hat and allow to dry if needed.
  • Step 5Take the strip on the left of the strip you just secured and bend it over to the top, right of the previous strip. Secure in place and allow to dry if needed.
  • Step 6Continue with the remaining strips in a clockwise direction, overlapping the strips as you make your way around. Allow to dry if needed.
  • If you wish to use your hat as a Chicken Character follow the next steps to create the face. You could also use the extra pieces to create a different character for your hat!
  • Step 7Fold the beak piece along the scored lines. Attach the flat part to the hat and allow to dry if needed.
  • Step 8Glue or tape the eyes onto the front of the hat and allow to dry if needed.
  • Step 9Valley fold the tab on each wing piece and glue or tape to each side of the hat. Allow to dry if needed.
  • Step 10Your Cardboard Hat is now ready to wear!
