Step 1Download and print out the template provided. We recommend printing onto cover paper as it provides a great surface for decorating and constructing your lantern. Decorate the template with pencils or markers.
Step 2Cut around the solid black template outlines. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. Place the smaller strip to the side for use in a later step.
Step 3Fold the large template piece in half along the grey dotted line.
Step 4While folded, cut along the solid vertical grey lines, being careful to not cut all the way through to the edge of the template.
Step 5Unfold your template and with the design on the outside, curve your template around so the two sides meet to form your lantern. Tape in place along the top and bottom. Use the template strip piece from Step 2 to create a handle for your lantern. Bend and tape the strip to the inside on each side of the lantern to secure.
Clever Tip: If you would like your lantern to light up, you will need to add a base to your lantern using a circle of paper. Tape in place and insert a battery LED Tealight candle inside. Please note: This lantern can only be used with a battery operated candle. DO NOT use with a naked flame.
Step 6Your Paper Poppy Lantern is now ready for Anzac Day!
