Step 1Put scrap paper or a splash mat down to protect your work surface. Paint your string art board with black paint and allow to dry.
Step 2Dip a fan brush into water and then load with white paint. Hold the brush flat over the string art board and tap on your hand to create paint spatters over the board. Continue tapping the brush until the board is covered so it looks like stars in a galaxy. Allow to dry.
Step 3Print and cut out the template you wish to use and place on top of the board. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. Once the template is in position, begin to hammer the nails into place around the outline of the shape, spacing the nails approximately 2cm apart. Adult supervision is recommended when using hammers and nails.
Step 4Once the outline is completely done, lift the template and remove it by gently pulling it over the top of the nails.
Step 5Choose a colour of wool and tie an end to a nail. Pull the wool to the first nail to the right of this, wrap it around the nail then move onto the next nail. Repeat this pattern to string all the way around the outside of the shape.
Step 6Once the outline is strung, randomly cross the wool across the star, filling in the shape. Tie off the wool once you are happy with the design and trim any excess. You may even wish to add in a second colour of wool to the design!
Step 7Finish off your string art design by gluing glitter star sequins around the board and allowing to dry.
Step 8Another way of completing the image would be to do a reversed image. To achieve this, complete steps 1-5 however at step 3 you would also add a border of nails around the outside of the board. Once you finish step 5, instead of completing step 6 and filling in the star, you now start to string from the inside star out to the border as shown.
Step 9You may also wish to add in a second colour of wool to the design!
