Step 1Before you begin, you will need to work out the stretch of the felt. Hold a square of felt between your hands and then give it a gentle pull horizontally. Shift your hands to now pull the felt vertically. One of the directions will have more stretch than the other.
Step 2Take six squares of brown felt and cut each square into six even strips. When cutting, be sure to cut WITH the stretch of the felt and not across it. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
Step 3Take the first strip and tie it onto the head band. A single knot will be fine as the felt will have stretch in it. Continue tying strips of felt onto the head band until it is completely covered, creating a lion’s mane.
While not completely necessary, you may wish to add some glue to the first and last felt piece to hold it all in place on the head band. Allow to dry if needed.
Step 4Cut two ear-shaped pieces from a sheet of orange felt and two slightly smaller ear-shaped pieces from yellow felt. Lay the yellow pieces on top of the orange pieces and use tacky glue to stick in place. Allow to dry.
Step 5Cut a small slit up from the bottom of each ear so there are two tabs. Bring the tabs together, laying one over the top of the other and then glue in place. Allow to dry.
Step 6Glue the ears on the lion’s mane, one on each side of the head band. Allow to dry.
Step 7Your Lion Headdress is now ready to wear! You could finish this outfit by wearing all brown and painting your face!
