Step 1Download and print the template provided. You can either print on white paper and decorate the template pieces or use the templates to cut the pieces out of coloured paper. We have chosen to cut the pieces out of coloured paper. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
We are making a white chicken but if you would like a colourful one, you can decorate your cardboard pyramid shape before starting the next step.
Step 2Valley fold along all the creases of your cardboard pyramid then position it flat in a ‘t’ position on the desk. Pull down the top flap and attach a wing piece to the tab on the left-hand side. Ensure you only use glue on the tab section and position the wing as shown in the image, aligned with the edge of the tab. Run glue along the whole length of the same tab and bring the left flap of the pyramid up to glue it in place. Allow to dry. The wing will be sticking out straight. Gently fold it down onto the pyramid wall surface as shown.
Step 3Fold in the tab on the pyramid flap on the right-hand side, then glue the chicken’s back comb in place as shown. Fold the corner of the comb near the point inwards to match the angle of the tab. Run glue along the whole length of the same tab and bring the right flap of the pyramid up to glue it in place. Your pyramid will now have 3 sides constructed. Allow to dry.
Step 4Fold in the tab on the left-hand side of the constructed section of pyramid and glue the front comb, beak and wattle in place as shown. You may need to fold the corner of the comb inwards to match the angle of the tab. Allow to dry.
Step 5Fold up the bottom flap and attach a wing piece to the tab on the right-hand side. Only use glue on the tab section where the wing will be positioned. Check it is in the right place and aligned with the other wing by folding the flap all the way up into position before allowing to dry. Gently fold the wing down onto the pyramid wall surface.
Be sure not to glue the final flap in place on the pyramid. This flap needs to remain movable so you can open and close it to put treats inside for gifting!
Step 6Glue the feet into position under the pyramid as shown. Allow to dry.
Step 7Pull the movable flap down and punch a hole near the top point of the triangle. Punch another hole, aligned with the first, in the tab that the front comb is glued to. Punch another hole in the top of the pyramid, opposite the opening.
Step 8Glue wiggle eyes in place on either side of the beak to complete the chicken’s face. Allow to dry.
Step 9Fill the pyramid with Easter treats or surprises. Cut a 20cm length of ribbon and thread through all three holes you created in step 7. Tie the ribbon into a bow on top of the chicken’s head, pulling and closing the pyramid so the treats are now secured inside.
Step 10 Your Easter Chicken Gift Box is now ready to give to your friend or family member!
