Step 1Download and print out the templates provided. Choose a silhouette design and cut it out. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
Step 2Make a loop with a small piece of masking tape (sticky side facing out) and place it onto the centre of the black cardboard. Place your cut out template shape over the tape so that it is centred on the black cardboard. Press down onto the centre to ensure the masking tape has adhered and your template won’t slip.
Step 3Think about what colours you would like to include in your artwork. Take your first colour of soft pastel and make a stroke onto the page, making sure you always start on top of the template and end on the cardboard. Repeat until you would like to change colours. The template will act as a mask as you create the lines over it and onto the black cardboard. Continue adding lines in your chosen colours all the way around your template.
Step 4Smooth out the pastel using your finger. Start from the lightest colour so that you can avoid creating muddy colours.
CleverTip: If you do smudge a darker colour with a lighter colour, use a clean finger and lightly wipe the excess pastel off. Colour back over the section and smooth out again with a clean finger. You can keep a damp cloth handy to remove excess pastel from your finger as you blend colours.
Step 5Carefully remove the template from your cardboard. You will now have a beautiful silhouette!
Step 6Decorate one of the banners from the templates using markers or pencils. We have also included blank banners if you wish to add your own message. Cut out the banner and glue to your artwork. Allow to dry.
CleverTip: You can spray your artwork with hairspray to help protect your artwork from smudging. Adult supervision is recommended.
