Step 1Print out the template provided onto cover paper. There will be some water involved in our activity so thick paper will work best.
Step 2Take a plastic sleeve and colour on top of it using markers. Think about which colours will go together well and what colours will be made if they bleed into one another. Be sure there is enough of the plastic sleeve coloured in to cover the template shape from step 1.
You can also use different types of plastic sheets such as acetate or laminating sheets to achieve the same effect.
Step 3Dip a fan brush into clean water and gently tap it on your hand above the coloured plastic sleeve to release water droplets onto the surface. You may already start to see the colours beginning to bleed and mix.
Step 4Take the template and place it face down onto the plastic sleeve, making sure the coloured section covers the entire template. Flip the template and plastic sleeve over to make sure it is fully covered.
Step 5Remove the plastic sleeve and allow the template to dry fully. Cut out the template piece along the solid black outline. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. Use a permanent pen to write your message onto one side of the hearts. Mountain fold along each grey dashed line on the template.
The plastic sleeve can be wiped clean with a cloth or paper towel and re-used after each ‘print’.
Step 6Add some glue along the tab on the side of the template. Fold the template in half along the dashed line, tucking the glued tab into place inside. Allow to dry and your Heart Bookmark is now ready to use or gift!
